Temple University, Japan Campus (TUJ) faculty and staff participated in a week of enriching workshops and personalized consultations from May 7 to May 13, 2025, hosted by the Center for the Advancement of Teaching (CAT).

Visiting from Temple University’s main campus in Philadelphia, Dana Dawson, Associate Director of Teaching and Learning, and Linda Hasunuma, Associate Director of Inclusion Initiatives, brought their faculty development expertise to TUJ in support of evidence-based, inclusive, and student-centered teaching.

About 60 TUJ participants attended the daily workshops and consultations, reinforcing their ongoing commitment to teaching excellence. As a central service for faculty members of all Temple campuses, CAT’s visit underscored Temple University’s broader mission to support innovative and inclusive teaching practices at a global scale.

Seven in-person workshops were held, covering a range of timely and relevant topics. In “Designing for Success: Foundational Strategies for Student-Centered Learning”, participants explored active learning principles and inclusive course design using Fink’s Taxonomy. Meanwhile, “Intercultural Awareness for Meaningful Engagement” encouraged faculty to embrace the cultural diversity in their classrooms to foster stronger connections and deeper learning.

Other sessions included “Supporting Student Mental Health”, which offered actionable strategies to guide students toward wellness resources, and “Practical Strategies for Teaching in the Age of AI”, which explored ways to adapt assignments in response to the rise of generative AI tools in academic work.

In addition to the workshops, Dawson and Hasunuma offered individual consultations with faculty, providing TUJ educators guidance on course design, assessment strategies, classroom dynamics, and inclusive teaching.
