Overview:
Drawing on her experiences of growing up and going to college in Mongolia as a blind person, as well as becoming the first blind Fulbright fellow from Mongolia and studying in America for her graduate degree, Uyanga will discuss about the dangers of being “realistic” in working with a student with a disability, and the power of overestimating versus underestimating. narrating through her personal stories, Uyanga will address the importance of learning to see beyond “what meets the eyes”, and helping students to learn to expect more of themselves. She will share, from a student’s perspective, about what works best in terms of communicating, working with and encouraging a student with disability without compromising academic standards and expectations.
About the speaker:
Uyanga Erdenebold is a public relations and diplomacy professional with over-seven-years-of experience working for the U.S. Department of State. In her role as the Cultural Affairs Specialist at the U.S. Embassy Ulaanbaatar, Ms. Erdenebold managed a portfolio of 15 exchanges and scholarship programs, including Fulbright, Hubert Humphrey Fellowship, International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) etc. Ms. Erdenebold also served as the U.S. Embassy’s main point of contact for over a thousand alumni of various U.S. Government-exchange programs, and was in charge of all alumni programing in Mongolia. She also served as an advisor and manager for the board of directors of the Mongolian Association of State Alumni (MASA), an active and dynamic association that she helped to build.
Ms. Erdenebold is a 2007 recipient of the Fulbright Fellowship and completed her graduate studies in Library and Information Science at the Louisiana State University (LSU). She conducted professional internships at the Library of Congress and at the Maryland State Library. Ms. Erdenbold currently serves as the Program Manager for the Tomodachi MetLife Women’s Leadership Program at the U.S. Japan Council.
