More than 100 supporters of TUJ helped raise over ¥4.5 million at the school’s first-ever “Travel Extravaganza,” an auction and gala held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel on Tuesday, June 5. Organized by the TUJ Tourism and Hospitality Advisory Board, the auction and gala helped to raise much-needed funds to provide scholarships for students wanting to make a career in tourism and hospitality management.
Auctioneer Aarin Teich kept the bids coming and the tension high, as guests vied against each other to buy an eclectic variety of bargains in keeping with the “Travel Extravaganza” theme. Items that went under the hammer included a baseball bat autographed by Barry Bonds, Egyptian art, luxury travel goods, and even the chance to have dinner and play golf with former Yokozuna Chiyonofuji.
