After nearly tripling its undergraduate student enrollment over the past five years, the Japan campus of Temple University (TUJ) continues to make significant investments in facilities, faculty, and student support.

Since relocating to its current Sangenjaya location in 2019, TUJ has expanded its footprint to include four neighborhood locations, including the three-story, 630-square-meter (6,781-square-foot) Owl Center, which opened in fall 2024. In January 2025, TUJ launched its second major location in Japan in Kyoto, near the world-famous Fushimi Inari Shrine. Enrollment at TUJ Kyoto has exceeded expectations, with over 300 undergraduate and graduate students currently enrolled.

In response to this rapid growth, the university is accelerating efforts to expand student housing and add academic and extracurricular facilities to further enhance student well-being and enrich campus life.

Enhance Facilities and Housing

TUJ will open a new 191-unit residential hall for students in Tokyo this summer. Located near Yoga Station, the facility will bring campus significantly closer to TUJ students staying in university housing, enabling them to commute door-to-door to the campus within 25 minutes by public transportation.

In 2027, TUJ will further expand its housing network by adding a 60-room residential hall near Ikejiri Ohashi station through a partnership with Tokyo-based U Share Inc., a developer, designer, and operator of international student residences. This collaboration will enable students to walk to the Setagaya City campus and reflects a shared commitment to increasing housing options for TUJ students in the years ahead.

To support continued growth at TUJ Kyoto, the university recently added an additional floor of classrooms and expanded its inventory of apartments to more than 300 units, many within walking distance of campus. Most recently, TUJ purchased a new multi-story apartment building known as the “International House,” dedicated exclusively to TUJ Kyoto students.
