Temple University, Japan Campus (TUJ) has donated 23 personal computers and 29 monitors to two philanthropic organizations. The donations were made in the name of the TUJ Student Government, as TUJ students took an active role in the project – wiping out the hard discs, reinstalling operating systems, and packaging the equipment.
Eight laptop PCs were sent to an NPO Class for Everyone. The machines will be used to support educational programs in the Philippines. Fifteen desktop PCs and 29 monitors were donated to a Pasokoken project, which will sell these used machines to raise funds to donate to NPOs to help children in Cambodia and children affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake.
TUJ typically replaces 50 to 100 PCs (and peripheral equipment) per year. It seeks to further reduce discarding of the old machines by donating them to philanthropic causes.
