Temple University, Japan Campus (TUJ) welcomed, for the fourth consecutive year, select students from high schools on the U.S. bases around the Asia-Pacific region for four days of intensive art workshops in December 2015. The 105 students from 13 high schools came from various locations including Mainland Japan, Okinawa Japan, Guam and South Korea.
Courses offered during this workshop included art courses under drawing, acrylic painting, water colors, digital photography, computer graphics, film, and printmaking. On the final day of the workshop, an art exhibition was held at the gallery at Takanawa Civic Center near the university. Sylvia Gingrich, Far East Academics Coordinator of the U.S. Department of Defense Education Activity Pacific, commented, “Students who are selected to participate in ‘Far East Film & Creative Expressions’ experience rigorous, real-world creative applications that promote career and college readiness in the arts. Students share that studying at TUJ in Tokyo is one of their most memorable high school learning experiences.”
