Temple University, Japan Campus (TUJ) will be holding an online screening of the film Salam Neighbor on November 19 in its role within UNHCR WILL2LIVE (formerly the Refugeee Film Festival) Cinema School Partners. The TUJ student committee is planning and managing the event.
UNHCR WILL2LIVE, as this film festival has been known since 2019, is an initiative of educational institutions and companies in support of promoting deeper understanding about refugees through screenings of films on the subject. TUJ has been a participating partner in the festival since 2017. This year’s event, originally scheduled in March but postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, will be held online.
Shunya Fukuda, a sophomore International Business major and the head of the student committee, shares his hopes for the the event.
“All members of the committee are trying their best to make this event successful. Holding an event on campus is challenging due to the coronavirus situation. Hosting it online will allow many students, faculty, and staff members to take part. I would like to invite people from our local community and from all over Japan to participate in order to give us all the opportunity to think about issues that refugees currently face around the world.”
In accordance with screening rights, this event is only available to those living in Japan but it is not limited to students, faculty, staff and graduates of TUJ. The general public in Japan is also welcome to participate.
