Temple University established its Japan campus (TUJ) in 1982. TUJ is the oldest and largest campus of a foreign university based in Japan. Located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (USA), Temple University is a large state-related institution that has been designated as an R1, or “Doctoral: Highest research activity,” by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. This places Temple University in the top tier of research universities in the United States. TUJ applies the same quality standards as its Philadelphia main campus in terms of courses, programs, students, and faculty. Students studying at TUJ will graduate with an American degree from Temple University.
In 2021, Temple University has again been recognized for its academic excellence by a variety of world-renowned evaluation organizations. Recently, it was ranked in the top 350 universities in the worldwide 2021 university rankings by Times Higher Education.
