Temple University, Japan Campus (TUJ) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and an Agreement on Credit Transfer and Student Exchange with Toyo University Faculty of Regional Development Studies in April 2014.
This MOU will allow students from both universities to register for credit-bearing courses at either university, creating more opportunities for student exchange between Japanese and American universities.
Toyo University Faculty of Regional Development Studies was selected for the “Project for Promotion of Global Human Resource Development” by MEXT in 2012 and classifies student exchanges with TUJ as “Study Abroad without Going Abroad.” Toyo students returning from exchange programs abroad will be able to maintain their English, and those who plan to study abroad will be able to use this program for preparation. Toshinobu Fujii, Dean of Faculty of Regional Development Studies at Toyo University, commented, “Everything is working out as desired. To encourage students to go abroad, they need to be immersed in different cultures. In an environment that is hard to find at Toyo, our students can explore and strengthen their own abilities in TUJ’s interactive classes.”
In summer semester 2014, starting May 26, TUJ welcomed nine Toyo students who recently returned from exchange programs in the U.S., the U.K., and other English-speaking countries. TUJ will start sending students to Toyo in fall 2014.
In addition to student exchange, the universities will explore possibilities for collaboration in other areas, including faculty and staff exchange, joint research activities and publications, exchange of academic materials and information, and jointly organizing cultural activities, conferences and academic programs.
