December 7, 2009

Temple University, Japan Campus (TUJ), will host a two-week training program for Indonesian government officials from the Ministry of Finance, commencing on December 7. Twenty-five participants from Indonesia will attend the tailor-made non-degree program entitled “Courseware Development for E-Learning and Classroom Instruction.” The training program is under the Professional Human Resource Development Project, Phase III (PHRDP-III) funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) as part of a Japanese ODA Loan signed by the governments of Indonesia and Japan in 2006.

The program and its contents will be created and taught by TUJ instructors and staff, and will cover a range of topics relevant to e-learning in an Indonesian context. For example, because Internet connectivity is not always reliable in the Indonesia countryside, it includes training on video production and video editing software to promote the use of video and DVD as training tools. In addition to lectures on the TUJ campus, the course also includes on-site visits to locations with specific relevance to participants, such as NHK Studio Park and Sony ExploraScience.

The course topics include:

  • E-learning technology
  • Learning Management System (LMS)
  • Infrastructure for creating an effective learning environment
  • Instructional design, paper-based and web-based
  • Video production and Final Cut Pro (a video editing software) workshop

When the participants return home, they will apply the knowledge and skills they learn at TUJ to help develop e-learning training programs in Indonesia.

The TUJ Corporate Education Program offers tailor-made training programs to companies and organizations of various sizes, with approximately 1,000 corporate employees attending training sessions each year. However, this is the first time that TUJ has created a training course specifically for officials from a foreign government. The selection of TUJ highlights its capabilities as one of the few educational institutions in Japan with the capacity and resources to design and offer a course on specific topics such as this, in English. TUJ plans to increase the number of training programs it offers to governmental organizations in the future.
