The TUJ Institute of Contemporary Asian Studies celebrates its new name with a showcase mini-symposium

The Institute of Contemporary Japanese Studies (ICJS) at Temple University, Japan Campus (TUJ), will change its name to the Institute of Contemporary Asian Studies (ICAS) as of January 2010. To commemorate the name change and celebrate the Institute’s 5th anniversary, TUJ will hold a special mini-symposium “Promoting Research & Debate on Asia” on the evening of January 19. The mini-symposium will feature six Asian and Japanese Studies specialists, a mix of guest speakers and TUJ professors, who will combine to give a one-hour presentation on a range of contemporary Asian and Japanese topics. Their presentation will be followed by a networking reception.

TUJ hosts professional E-Learning training program for Indonesian Government officials

December 7, 2009

Temple University, Japan Campus (TUJ), will host a two-week training program for Indonesian government officials from the Ministry of Finance, commencing on December 7. Twenty-five participants from Indonesia will attend the tailor-made non-degree program entitled “Courseware Development for E-Learning and Classroom Instruction." The training program is under the Professional Human Resource Development Project, Phase III (PHRDP-III) funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) as part of a Japanese ODA Loan signed by the governments of Indonesia and Japan in 2006.

TUJ Law Program 15th Anniversary Symposium – Marking 15 years of Japan’s only ABA-accredited American Law School

Temple University, Japan Campus (TUJ), inaugurated its Master of Laws (LL.M.) program in 1994. In the 15 years since, the majority of the program’s more than 190 alumni have been working as legal professionals in various fields. To commemorate the Law Program’s 15th anniversary, TUJ is inviting alumni of the program to attend a special symposium on the theme “Issues for International Lawyers in Japan,” to be held on Saturday, November 7, 2009 in Harumi, Tokyo.

TUJ’s new MBA Program Director Mikiya Mori straddles the financial and academic worlds

Temple University, Japan Campus (TUJ) announced the appointment of Mikiya Mori as the new MBA Program Director, effective July 21. Mr. Mori has enjoyed a long career in the securities industries, having worked at Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan for nearly 20 years in all. He succeeds Michael Leeds, who returned to the Temple University Main Campus on completing his term in Japan.

On Friday 29th May 2009, a signing ceremony was held to officially mark a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for collaborative academic programs, initiatives and exchanges between Temple University, Japan Campus (TUJ), and Tohoku University of Community Service and Science (Koeki University). The ceremony held at the Koeki University campus in Yamagata Prefecture was the culmination of extensive consultation and preparatory work between the two universities.

International Business Major at TUJ responds to demands for global business expertise

Temple University, Japan Campus (TUJ), will introduce a new degree, the Bachelor of Science in International Business (BSIB), in the Fall 2009 semester. The main focus of this new major is to provide students with the practical skills to work in international business in a multi-language/multi-cultural environment. Student numbers in Temple University Japan Campus Continuing Education Program Show Strong Growth

The number of students enrolled in the spring 2009 semester (starting in January) in the Continuing Education Program at Temple University Japan Campus (TUJ) reached 871 as of the 27t h January, exceeding 800 students for three semesters in succession. Including participants in the 1-2 day workshops scheduled in April, the number of students is expected to exceed 900.
